Tata Motors has been on quite a roll lately as it seeks to earn a larger share in the Indian automotive market. The company’s latest effort comes in the form of an SUV — Punch. Yep, the home-grown automaker is set to announce Tata Punch’s price in India later today. The launch was previously expected to happen on 20 October but the company confirmed last week it will launch the upcoming micro SUV in India today instead. Anyway, enough about the dates; let us focus on the star of the article: Tata Punch SUV. The company had already unveiled the car in India earlier this month, which means we already know all there is to know about this upcoming Tata SUV in India save for the price, of course.
Tata Punch, underpinned by the same ALFA architecture as the Tata Altroz, will be positioned below the Tata Nexon sub-compact SUV in the company’s portfolio. Aimed at being the kind of car that allows owners to take on rough terrains with ease, the Punch SUV gets 187 mm of ground clearance, 16-inch tyres, high approach and departure angles, etc.
The upcoming SUV in India also comes loaded with a world of features and provisions including automatic projector headlamps, LED DRLs, etc. The list of Tata Punch’s other features includes push-button start/stop, idle stop/start, automatic AC, seven-inch touchscreen, iRA connectivity suite, seven-inch TFT display for the semi-digital instrument cluster, etc. For safety, Tata Motors has equipped the car with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, corner stability control, cruise control, and brake sway control among other things. Tata Punch has received a five-star crash test rating from Global NCAP.
Tata Punch is offered with a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine which delivers 85 bhp and 113 Nm of maximum torque. The automaker has also equipped the upcoming Tata SUV’s engine with Dynapro technology which feeds the engine with ram air for improved combustion. As for transmission, Tata Motors is offering the SUV with a choice between a five-speed gearbox and an AMT.
Tata Punch price in India (expected)
Based on all the information and other relevant factors, we expect Tata Punch’s price to start in the vicinity of ₹5 lakh and go up to perhaps ₹7.8 lakh (ex-showroom).
